A broken torsion or extension spring is the #1 reason garage doors fail to open. Our fully stocked trucks carry springs for nearly every door on the market.
A garage door spring does the heavy lifting — literally. Springs counterbalance the weight of your door (typically 150–300 lbs), making it possible for your opener to guide the door up and down with minimal effort. When a spring breaks, that counterbalance disappears, and your door either won't move at all or becomes dangerously heavy to operate manually.
Most torsion springs are rated for 10,000–20,000 cycles. At two uses per day, that's roughly 7–14 years of life. The average Spokane homeowner doesn't know their springs are aging until the loud bang of a break wakes them up in the morning.

A snapping torsion spring sounds like a gunshot inside your garage. If you heard a sudden loud bang and your door stopped working, call us — don't try to inspect the spring yourself.
A broken torsion spring will have a visible 2–3 inch gap in the coil. If you can see the spring from your garage floor and spot a gap, it's broken and needs immediate replacement.
On dual-spring systems, one spring may break while the other holds. The door will open unevenly or jerk to one side. This puts stress on cables, drums, and the opener — replace both springs immediately.
